Laura Guptill is a New Hampshire native, living and creating hand wrought jewelry in the beautiful Mount Washington Valley. She has been creating jewelry for over 35 years and has developed a loyal following over the years.
"Laura describes her journey into jewelrymaking as follows: "I love the feeling of taking something so raw and transforming it into a wearable piece of art jewelry. My interests were sparked at the age of 10, in my fathers garage, where I made my first cuff bracelets from copper piping. At sixteen I was drawn to the silver bangles and sterling silver filigree earrings that were the rage in the late 70's . .. I spent my last semester in high school as a jewelers apprentice. The "smell" of the torches and hot metal, the silver and the whole experience of choosing the material to shaping, texturizing, soldering, sanding, buffing, tooling designs into the surface and ultimately wearing a handmade piece of jewelry, this has shaped who I am and what I love."
Although her work is recognizable, it is also not predictable. All of Laura's jewelry is primarily 'one of a kind' work and is inspired by certain gemstones and combinations of metals, including sterling silver, all karats of gold, as well as copper and brass.
